Programme moderator: Aleksandra Prodanović Bojović, Museum of African Art curator, deputy editor-in-chief of the AFRIKA Journal About the MAA’s Publishing The Museum of African Art has persisted over the decades in publishing catalogues, monographs and studies on traditional and contemporary phenomena in African art and culture. In the last ten years, the Museum has issued comprehensive studies, beautifully designed and illustrated, with the intention of offering an up-to-date and detailed presentation and interpretation of the art forms and visual cultures from the second largest continent in the world and from its diaspora. Of particular importance is the fact that all publications are published in two languages, for reasons of the existing global world interest in the arts of Africa, on the one hand, and due to the need for maintaining dialogue with relevant international authors, museologists, experts and publishers. The different African art themes that are covered incorporate an essential interdisciplinary approach with the aim of merging different art practices, anthropology, history, religion, archeology, film and photography. In all this, the Museum of African Art as publisher seeks to position itself within the framework of what the diversity of world production has to offer, and find its place alongside existing publications of important world museums and university centers, which interpret and present to the public the complex domains of African art and creativity. AFRIKA – Studies in Art and Culture The AFRIKA – Studies in Art and Culture Journal is a unique academic publication in our country and region dedicated to researching Africa. The journal is published and edited in collaboration with academic and university based experts and an international editorial board. It offers readers reviewed academic articles that deal with various themes within traditional and contemporary African creativity, as well as critical writing and reviews of books, exhibitions, films and interviews with contemporary African artists. Particular attention is placed on the Museum of African Art’s and relevant world museum’s production, i.e. specialised institutions in this field of research. Exhibition Catalogues The catalogues which accompany each temporary exhibition are informative and educational, richly illustrated and beautifully designed publications. They offer an overview of the MAA’s most important collections and collaborative work with private collectors and individual artists. Exhaustive and extensive texts by museum professionals are complemented with high-quality photographs of museum objects, which provide valuable museological data, especially for artists, researchers, students and lovers of African art. |
