MAA at the MAMUTFEST 2015
the international museum festival for children and family

National Museum Kikinda
September 12, 2015

The international museum festival for children and family “MamutFest” organized by the National Museum Kikinda lasted this year for three days and offered a great number of various programs to more than three thousand of its visitors. As part of the MamutFest 2015, a special program named “The Bazaar of Museums and Ideas” was held on Saturday, September 12, in which eleven museums from different Serbian towns took part (Šid, Novi Sad, Knjaževac, Pančevo, Beograd).

The Museum of African Art participated in the program with a children’s workshop “The mini-models for African Murals” that was conducted by Marija Ličina, curator and Milica Josimov, sculptor. During the workshop, children created their mini-models of houses using cardboard and paper, and decorated them by coloring, drawing and collages, applying in their work the strong colors and geometric style typical for the famous murals of the Ndbele people. Also as a result of this creative workshop, two midi-models of houses were created from the recycled materials – one meter high, of cardboard boxes and plastic bags – which kids decorated in a group work, jointly painting and combining different colors and motifs. The Museum of African Art took part in one more program at the MamutFest 2015 – the Conference of museum educators, where the MAA’s educational programs were presented to the audience by Marija Ličina.
