MasterClass by Milica Marinković

The Museum of African Art invites all adult lovers of creative expression to apply for the Master Class workshop led by applied artist Milica Marinković. In this specialist workshop, participants will have a unique opportunity to discover how used Nespresso capsules can be transformed into unique fashion accessories.
Milica Marinković found inspiration for the works she will present at the Master Class in the exhibition “Recy: Art – Waste as Resource”, which showcased sculptures from Namibia and South Africa made from discarded Nespresso capsules. This practice emerged in southern Africa in the early 2000s, when consumers obtained products through online orders or independent distributors, especially in South Africa, before the company officially opened its office in Dakar in 2022. The colourful capsules inspired African artists to create small luminescent masterpieces, merging art and sustainability.
At the Master Class, the artist will demonstrate unique techniques for working with Nespresso coffee capsules, after which participants will be able to choose their own project and develop it under her mentorship. Through hands-on work, participants will explore the diverse possibilities the capsules offer and learn how to shape their own fashion creations. Upon completion of the workshop, all participants will receive an official certificate of attendance.
About the Artist
Milica Marinković is a Belgrade-based artist and fashion designer known for creating luxury dresses from cans and bottle caps, merging art, design, and ecological awareness. Her works include dresses and costumes made from cans, metal caps, and other discarded materials.
She has exhibited her works at group exhibitions in Cvijeta Zuzorić Pavilion, Đura Jakšić House, the Army Hall of Serbia, Princess Ljubica’s Residence, and the Ethnographic Museum, as well as several solo exhibitions at the Singidunum Gallery.
Within the professional association ULUPUDUS, she holds the status of an independent artist. In addition to exhibiting, Milica often participates in educational programs, showing participants how to transform everyday waste into unique fashion pieces.
Her practice connects art and social responsibility, aiming to inspire changes in how we think about waste and recycling through design.

The MasterClass will take place over the weekend of September 26 and 27, lasting 4 hours each day, from 11 AM to 3 PM.
The group is limited to 8 participants. Applications are open until September 24, 2026.

The fee for the two-day MasterClass program is 5,000 RSD per participant.
