About the exhibition
The comparison of the two seemingly different aspects of creativity found on the African continent – cave painting and body decoration, is based on the idea that drawing and colour are the oldest forms of communication based on the human need for expressing artistic sensibilities. The aim of the exhibition and book, are to emphasise the presence of an extremely enduring painting tradition, which at the same time can be interpreted as the fundamental basis upon which contemporary African artists create.
